Helen Fay, age 90 years , of Flemington passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Independence Manor in Flemington.
Born near the coal-mining town of Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Helen and her family moved to New York City in the 1930s. It was there she met her future husband of forty years, James R. Fay, who passed away in 1988.
Helen and James owned a coffee shop in the theater district of Manhattan for almost thirty years. After their retirement in 1978, they moved to South Yarmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. There, Helen opened a bookstore, where she worked for 23 years. Her loving daughter Pat, her sons Robert and Gerald, and their spouses and children visited her often and brightened her days there.
Forced by her deteriorating vision to finally retire, Helen moved in 2001 to Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, to live with her son Gerald’s family. This also allowed her to be closer to her beloved sister Terry, and her nieces and nephews. There she made new friends also- the Yurgels, who were to become family to her.
In 2004, Helen moved to Independence Manor, where she again added to her circle of loved ones. Her time there
could not have been better, and she enjoyed life to the very end.
She will be missed by many.
Helen is survived by her daughter Patricia McCarthy, her sons Gerald Fay and Robert Fay, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and her loving sister, Terry O’Malley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, from 3:30 to 4:30, at the Holcombe Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, New Jersey.
