Helen G. Bublitz

May 7, 1928 — January 14, 2024

Helen G. “Bobbie” Bublitz, age 95, passed away in the early hours of January 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 7, 1928, in New York City, Bobbie was the only child of the late Joseph and Helen K. Ginniff. Growing up in the city and summering in the Adirondack’s she was a true New York girl. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle (NY). While visiting Newport RI, Bobbie met the love of her life, the late Robert E. Bublitz, CDR, USN (Ret.). The two shortly eloped and were happily married for nearly 70 years before his death in 2018.

Bobbie and Bob, like most military families, lived in many places throughout their marriage including Manila, Baghdad, and Munich. Once they were stateside again, they settled their family in Warren Township NJ. There Bobbie continued to raise their two daughters and travel the world accompanying Bob on many business trips before retiring to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. In later years they returned to NJ settling in Flemington to be closer to their daughters and their families. Bobbie loved the water, fishing with Bob from their boat on the Eastern Shore, spending summers in Bethany Beach DE and traveling frequently to their home on Treasure Cay in the Bahamas.

Bobbie loved dogs and as an adult was never without one (or more). She bred, showed and field trialed her many German Shorthaired Pointers and was an Honorary Member of the Eastern German Shorthaired Pointer Club. In her later years she enjoyed the company of her loyal Labrador Retrievers.

Bobbie was an incredible cook and loved to entertain her friends. She was known as the consummate hostess of many dinner parties and her famous Christmas Eve Beef Fondue is now a family tradition. She was always impeccably dressed head to toe whether at home or out on the town. She was an avid reader and loved to discuss world affairs and debate current politics right up until the time she passed.

Bobbie will be remembered most of all, for her infinite love. The love she lavished on her family and friends. The love for her three grandsons, always attending their plays, recitals, many sporting events, graduations and eventually weddings. Her love is her legacy.

In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Bublitz, CDR, USN (Ret.) in 2018. She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Ellen and Frank Cavalla of Flemington NJ and Lauren and Todd Althoff of Tewksbury NJ, her three grandsons and their wives: Kip and Ashley Althoff, Jeffrey and Allie Althoff and Blake Althoff all of Hoboken NJ.

Bobbie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Arlington National Cemetery (VA), arrangements to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at www.nmcrs.org . Cremation services and funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822.
