Helen Lenhart Potter, age 100, passed away on Saturday March 31, 2018. She was the
daughter of James Lenhart and Teresa Fallon. Her husband of 48 years, Fay Harland Potter,
preceded her in death on April 4th, 1989.
Helen graduated from Roselle Park High School in 1936, and later from Drake Business College. She retired in 1982 from her job at Kean University where she was an Administrative Assistant. Earlier she was employed at the General Motors Plant in Linden, NJ when fighter planes were being assembled as part of our country's World War II effort.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother Teresa and step-father
Percy Bennion, her Aunt Sara E. Lenhart, with whom she spent many years, and a sister Carol Lenhart.
She is survived by a daughter, Carole Heffernan Potter and a son Lawrence (Larry) Potter and
his wife Sandee of Pittstown, N.J. Helen also leaves behind grandsons Brendan Heffernan and his wife Kelly Ann Harris of Maplewood, NJ, Ian Heffernan of Flemington, NJ, Zachary Potter of San Francisco, Scott Potter of Safety Harbor, Florida, and Rachel Potter of New York City. Helen had four great-grandchildren; Sydney and Hunter Heffernan of High Bridge, NJ as well as Brendan and Margaret Heffernan of Maplewood, NJ. She also leaves her beloved cats, Sebastian and Belle who were her loving companions and bunk buddies.
Helen spent many years involved with the children of Roselle, NJ as a Cub Scout Den Mother
and she was a Sunday School teacher at the First Presbyterian Church there. She greatly
enjoyed gardening and was a talented oil painter. She had been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Roselle and in the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church of Pittstown, NJ. At the age of 98 she made her Confirmation and became a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Pittstown.
A funeral service will be held at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St. Flemington, NJ on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at her family's plot at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
