Helen S. Barras, age 93 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Clyde, NY, August 15, 1925, daughter of the late James and Viola Dorn Sharp, Helen had formerly resided in Whitehouse Station, NJ and had resided in Flemington most of her life.
Helen was a graduate of Flemington High School and, for many years, operated a day care facility at her home in Flemington.
She also was an aide for Special Needs Children at the Flemington Presbyterian Church.
Always active at the Flemington Presbyterian Church where she was a member over sixty years, Helen was an elder and deacon of the church and was also a member of its' Women's Association, where she was hospitality chairperson for many years. Helen was also the Communion Steward for the church for many years.
Her husband, Irving Barras, died in 1983, her daughter, Elizabeth Anne Barras, died in 1963 and her son, Wayne Irving Barras, died in 1959.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda B. Dotson, of Maryville, TN; two grandchildren, Kelsey Marcengill and Shaelyn Von Schweinitz; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Paul Von Schweinitz; a brother, Alan Sharp of Ocala, FL and a sister, Virginia Vroom of San Jose, CA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at 11:00 AM in the Flemington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Amy Lincoln officiating. Calling hours will be Wednesday 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 main Street, Flemington, NJ.
