Henry J. Sporysz

Henry J. Sporysz, age 80 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at his residence.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, February 29, 1924, son of the late Peter and Barbara Kozak Sporysz, he formerly resided in Whitehouse Station, NJ before moving to Raritan Township in 1945.

He was a 1942 graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, NJ.

From 1943 to 1946, Mr. Sporysz served with the United States Navy, participating in the Normandy Beach Invasion as well as spending one and a half years in the European Theater of Operations.

He was a Supervisory Warehouse Forman of the Veterans Administration Supply Depot, Somerville, NJ, until his retirement in 1979. Also, for many years, he was a Watkins Products dealer.

A communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, Mr. Sporysz was a member of American Legion Post #159, Flemington, NJ, a former member of the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad and a former member of the New Jersey Civil Defense Corps.

Additionally, he held a permit from the Federal Trade Commission to operate licensed radio-telephone stations. He graduated from the National Radio Institute, Washington, D.C. in 1950, attaining the title of Radiotrician and Teletrician, as well as the Sprayberry Academy of Radio, Chicago, IL.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene Kocsik Sporysz; two daughters, Michele DeGhetto of Raritan Township, NJ and Cheryl Shepard and her husband Kenneth of Port St. Lucie, FL; three sisters, Joann O’Connor of Lexington, KY; Maryann Hall of San Antonio, TX, and Barbara Colvin of Tampa, FL. Another sister, Sally Welguisz, died earlier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington, NJ.
