Henry Young Kuhl passed away Saturday, January 29th at the age of 91 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Raritan Township, NJ on May 4, 1930, to Paul H. Kuhl and wife Mable and lived there his entire life. He graduated from Flemington High School and Rider College after attending the Copper Hill one room school.
Henry helped create the legacy of the family business, Kuhl Corporation, which was started in 1909 with his father and brother Paul. It started as a poultry equipment business, it has since grown into an international machinery manufacturer for poultry, food, pharmaceutical and other industrial industries. Henry was the proud face of the company traveling worldwide promoting products including the first commercial egg washer which he invented. He has 20+ patents which helped the industries flourish. He was elated that his son’s and grandson joined the business to help take it to the next level. Henry continued to come to the office regularly and loved to solve many of the industry issues.
Mr. Kuhl was known as the President of Kuhl Corporation, Director and Vice President of the Flemington Fair, Director of the Town and Country Bank, Somerset Trust Co., US Poultry and Egg association, Independent Bakers of America, member of the International Egg Commission and National Broiler Council.
Aside from business, Henry was a political icon as the Hunterdon County Republican Chairman for 35 years which is the longest county leader in New Jersey’s history. In addition, he was the Chairman of the New Jersey Chairman’s Association, the Raritan Township Republican Club President, C Club President and Convention Delegate for President Nixon, Reagan, Ford, and Trump. One of his favorite memories he spoke of regularly was being Santa for disadvantaged children with the Governor at Drumthwacket.
Henry was a lifelong member of the Flemington Presbyterian Church, Sunday school teacher and an ordained elder for over 50 years. He served as the Chairman on many of the church committees over the years.
He was recently honored with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year award from the Boy Scouts of America, the Chabad of Hunterdon, Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce and VIV Europe Poultry Personality Award.
Pre-deceased by his wife Elsa, Henry is survived by his wife Cynthia, his son Kevin and wife Mary, son Jeff and wife Darlene, grandson Bryan Kuhl, granddaughter Lindsey Kuhl and her fiancé Austin Brengel, grandsons Kyle and Eric Kuhl, stepson Ryan Orsi and wife Catrina and four step-grandchildren.
The viewing will be held at the Flemington Presbyterian Church, Thursday, February 3rd from 5:00- 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 4th at 11:00 AM in the Flemington Presbyterian Church, 10 East Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in the family plot at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ.
Masks are REQUIRED to be worn inside the church. Limited seating is available in the sanctuary due to Covid protocols. Friday's service will be livestreamed on the Flemington Presbyterian Church Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/FlemingtonPresbyterian) for those who are more comfortable watching from home.
