Herbert B. Grossman, age 87 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, in Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Hartford, CT, January 13, 1926, son of the late Nathan and Lena Yousman Grossman, he had formerly resided in Warminster, PA for three years and in Whitehouse Station, NJ for twelve years before moving to Raritan Township in 2011.
Involved with publishing sales of music, maps, and atlases most of his working life, he eventually owned and operated his own distributon company until retiring.
He served with the US Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist's Mate and participated in action in the Pacific.
An avid Boston Red Sox fan, he enjoyed reading and was also and avid golfer and poker player. He also had a passion for jazz and big band music.
Surviving are his wife of forty-seven years, Leni Schiff Grossman; four daughters, Rebecca Grossman and her partner, Katherine Beggiato, of Hillsborough, NJ, Sarah Grossman of Annandale, NJ, Lori Michiel and her husband, Ralph, of West Hills, CA, Amy Schneider and her husband, Dennis of Northridge, CA, three grandchildren, Daniel Schneider, Carrie Schneider and Alyson Schneider; a brother, Edward Grossman and his wife, Carole; and a sister, Mildred Lapp and her husband, Barney, of West Hartford, CT.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 11:00 AM in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Washington Crossing, PA under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the cemetery office on Wednesday.
