Herman W. Schiller, age 89 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Wednesday, April 09, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, June 24, 1924, son of the late Herman and Augusta Jaeger Schiller, he had resided in the Flemington area for the past nine years and had formerly resided in Monroe Township, NJ.
A World War II United States Navy Veteran, he worked as a chemical operator for Rhone-Poulenc Inc., Cranberry, NJ.
He is predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Rose Schiller. Surviving are four children; Linda Schiller of Rockaway, NJ, Robert Schiller and wife, Beth, of Boise ID, Myrna and husband, Mark Scimeca of Flemington, NJ, and Sandra Schiller of Billerica, MA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Melissa Schiller, Matthew Scimeca, Stephen Scimeca and James Scimeca.
He was a voracious reader, a lover of classical music and opera, and had a gift for writing poetry and essays.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 15, at 10 AM in the St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, South Brunswick, NJ. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
