Hester W. Farmer, 82, of Pennington, NJ passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at her home.
Born in Reading, PA, July 15, 1930, daughter of the late F. Lamar and Mary Hand Waston, she spent most of her childhood in New Brunswick, NJ. She graduated from Northfield School for Girls and New Jersey State Teachers College. After she was married, she lived in Plainfield and Westfield for 43 years before retiring to Pennington.
When she was in Westfield, she was a member of the Junior League and the Service League. She was the secretary of the Service League.
In Pennington, she was in the Garden Club, the Social Committee and the Book Club of Four Seasons. She was co-chair of the Garden Club. At the Pennington Church, she was a deacon for 6 years (2000-2006). She was in charge of the Christmas progressive dinners and a program that gave presents to the prisoner's children at Christmas time. She also worked at the Trenton Soup Kitchen and was involved with LOGOS, a time that seniors at the church met with teens on Wednesday nights and had dinner.
Her husband, William Miller Farmer, died on April 27 of this year after sixty-one years of marriage.
Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Carol and Gail Hart of Flemington, NJ; Kathy and Lindsay Farmer-Smith of Harleysville, PA; Beth and Michael Satow of Winslow, ME; and Meg Farmer and Charlie Wolf of Branchburg, NJ; and six grandchildren: Phillip Hart and wife, Nicole, Allison Hart, Sarah Farmer-Smith, Ryan Farmer-Smith, Erin Satow and Stephanie Satow.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in The Pennington Presbyterian Church, 13 South Main Street, Pennington, NJ with the Reverend Nancy Mikoski, officiating. There will also be a memorial visitation Friday, June 21, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Holcombe- Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private in the family plot at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ.
