H.K. Van Duyne, Md

January 18, 1934 — October 24, 2016

Dr. H. K. Van Duyne, age 82 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Monday, October 24, 2016, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Towaco, NJ, he was the son of the late Halsey A. and Gertrude M. Van Duyne.

He graduated from the Towaco Elementary School & Boonton High School. Kent then graduated from the Rutgers College of Pharmacy in 1955. He worked as a pharmacist in New Jersey and Virginia before becoming a physician. In 1960 he graduated from the Medical College of Virginia.

Following an internship at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Ohio, he served as a US Navy physician for two years; followed by a residency at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington. At that time, he received the Mead Johnson Awards for Graduate Training in General Practice. For 32 years he practiced family medicine - including many house calls, also performing deliveries for 13 years. He was also the medical director at Foothill Acres Nursing Home, Neshanic, NJ for 27 years before retiring in 1996.

Dr. Van Duyne was a Diplomate, American Board of Family Practice, and a member of the American Geriatrics Society.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Van Duyne of Flemington, NJ, his two daughters: Mrs. David (Margie) Voight of Bradenton, FL & Mrs. Edward (Wendy) Kral of Central Valley, NY; a son, Jeffrey (wife, Kathy) Van Duyne of Milford, NJ; six grandchildren, Emily & Zachary Voight, Alex, Jesse & Kiersten Kral, and Chloe Van Duyne. His surviving siblings include his sisters Thelma Brown of Savannah, GA, Mrs. Glenn (Claire) Moore of Lincoln Park, NJ, Mrs. William (Betty Jane) Diedrich of Westwood, KS and brother, Dan Van Duyne of MA.

While in high school he was selected as Best Athlete and played All-State basketball, he continued playing the sport during his stay at Rutgers Pharmacy. Basketball, tennis & golf continued to be his hobbies. Having an interest in finances, he became licensed to sell mutual funds as a Registered Representative with Nasdaq (another hobby).

Kent was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and former deacon, more recently he attended the Flemington Baptist Church and St. Magdalen's Catholic Church in Flemington. While in the Navy he was a scoutmaster for 2 years in Michigan and later chairman of the troop committee for Troop 60 of Sergeantsville, NJ.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Flemington Baptist Church, 170 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Montville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Towaco, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to Flemington Baptist Church, 170 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
