Howard J. Thompson, age 79 years, of Ringoes, NJ (West Amwell Township), died on Sunday, August 12, 2012, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

A lifelong resident of Hunterdon County, he was born in Flemington, NJ, October 12, 1932, son of the late Howard and Maizie Smith Thompson, and had resided in Ringoes for fifty-six years.

He was graduate of Flemington High School, Class of 1951, and served in Korea with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of the NJ National Guard.

Howard was a carpenter, first employed by Merrill Lockwood, Flemington, NJ, then by Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ, retiring in 1997 after thirty years there.

He was a member of the Sandy Ridge Baptist Church where he was a choir member and also a member of its' baseball dart team. He was also a member of the Amwell Valley Exempt Firemens Association, Ringoes, NJ.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Elmer and Jean Dalrymple and John and Marjorie Frizzell.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-six years, H. Gail Voorhees Thompson; a son, Kenneth Thompson of Ringoes, NJ; a granddaughter, Sabrina Thompson of Ringoes, NJ; two brothers-in-law, Harry and his wife, Mary Voorhees of Dillsburg, PA and Frank and his wife, Jerry Voorhees of Seaside Park, NJ; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 17, 2012, at Noon in Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, 47 Sandy Ridge Road, Delaware Township, NJ. Interment will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Reaville, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
