Hoyt Walker Masterton died peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at his son’s home in Flemington, New Jersey; he was 76 years old. He was predeceased by his wife, Elayne in July, 2017. Hoyt was a longtime resident of Montgomery Township, New Jersey prior to moving to Northampton, Pennsylvania in 2005.
Hoyt was passionately patriotic. As a boy, he was an Eagle Scout, being elected a member of the Order of the Arrow and rendering outstanding community service and community projects. In the 1960’s, he served in the New Jersey National Guard as a Unit Tank Commander and was awarded the Unit’s High Proficiency Award. He was an avid history buff, extremely knowledgeable about our country’s past and the Civil War was his expertise. He was a longstanding member of the 15th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, Ringoes, New Jersey. He participated in historical reenactments and gave lectures on the Civil War. He was a supporter and volunteer for the Jacobsburg Historical Society and the Long Rifle Museum, Nazareth Pennsylvania.
Hoyt was a loving Father and is survived by his three children; son Colin and his wife Rachel and grandson Max, the Cayman Islands; daughter Lora and her husband Steven and granddaughter Peyton, Sarasota, Florida; James and his wife Deirdre and granddaughter Aden and grandson Jake, Flemington, New Jersey. Also, his brother Mark, Scottsbluff, Nebraska and his sister, Janet, Tewksbury Township, New Jersey.
Hoyt is now part of the history, that he so embraced. Thank you Hoyt, for being part of our history and our lives.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 4:00pm and the Calling Hours are from 3:00pm - 4:00pm at the Holcombe - Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, New Jersey.
