Irene Vlahakis Hindle

March 2, 1927 — December 17, 2024

Flemington, NJ

Irene V. (Vlahakis) Hindle, age 97, passed peacefully in the company of her life’s passion – her three sons – on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024.

Irene was the daughter of Greek immigrants, Constantinos and Eleni Vlahakis. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 2, 1927 (actually March 1, but rumor has it that it is bad luck for a Greek to be born on a Tuesday, so some finagling was done). Clearly bad luck was not in Irene’s case. Irene spent most of her early years in NJ and later years splitting time between Flemington and her beloved home on Marco Island, Florida.

Irene graduated from Pratt Institute in NY with a degree in costume design. She was a skilled seamstress, and her creative spirit knew no bounds. Her sons fondly remember being “dressed” for Halloween parades in Flemington and Whitehouse. Her unique costumes always won top prizes.

She was a great support to her late husband John, who started Hitran Corporation (Hindle Transformer Company) in Flemington and HindlePower, Inc. in Easton, PA. In the early days she was active in the business.

The family enjoyed a passion for boating with many adventures on the high seas. Irene was an avid golfer, and she enjoyed golfing with her many wonderful friends in NJ and Florida. Irene and John were founding members of Copper Hill Country Club and Irene had the longest membership tenure when she passed.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, John Hindle, Jr., and siblings, Maria Pappas and Peter Vlahakis. She is survived by her brother, James Vlahakis; and her sons, John (Hope), James (Kathy) and William (Connie); and leaves behind eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

Irene had that special knack and all who knew her felt the love. She was the life of the party and had that special quality - a joie de vivre. She was the glue that held it all together.

“RIP, Mom, se algapo, say hi to Dad, and we will see you later”.
