Irene Viola Doster

Irene Viola Doster, lifelong Hunterdon County, NJ resident, passed away the evening of March 1, 2023, in the Country Arch Care Center, Pittstown, NJ, a day shy of her 90th birthday.

Born in Pittstown, NJ, March 2, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Liskai) Makatura. She went on to receive her teaching degree and was an elementary school teacher at the Frenchtown Public School for many years before retiring in 1998.

Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling as a missionary with Word of Life sharing the word of God while assisting as a nurse, ophthalmologist, chef or however else she could help. This took her all over the globe to places like Hungary, Italy, Poland, Scotland, Romania, and Africa. Additionally, in her spare time she enjoyed playing the piano, painting, puzzles, gardening and a good game of Skip-bo.

The last of eight siblings, she was also predeceased by her son, James T. Doster, who died in 2022.

Surviving are three children, Rachel Carhart-Schwartzer (husband Jack) of Flemington, NJ, Randal Doster (wife Ruth) of Ringoes, NJ, and John Doster of Nokesville, VA; her grandchildren, Taylor Lyn Carhart (fiancé Vincent) of Flemington, NJ, Monika Doster of Hatboro, PA, Cassandra Ferreira (husband Marcel) of Apex, NC, and Jessica Dispensa (husband John) of Flemington, NJ; as well as her great-grandchildren: Xander, Isla, Jacqueline, Elaina, Damon and Vincent, Jr.

Calling hours will be from 11:00 AM-1:30 PM on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Charles Green, will follow at 1:30 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Liskai family plot in Frenchtown Cemetery, Trenton Avenue, Frenchtown, NJ.
