John “Jack” Douglas Pickell, age 77 years, of Farmville, VA died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

He had formerly resided in Flemington, NJ until retiring to Virginia in 1997. Jack was the son of the late Jacob and Helen Wyckoff Pickell.

He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1954-1962 attaining the rank of Airman 2nd Class.

He worked for the United States Postal Service from 1977-1996.

He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing at Pt. Pleasant Beach and trap shooting.

He was a life member of Flemington Elks Lodge 1928 and a member of VFW Post 7856, Flemington, NJ.

Mr. Pickell was pre-deceased by his wife, Jane Pickell and a brother, Robert Pickell. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl A. and Jan Reiss of Raritan, NJ; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Clyde Cox of Flemington, NJ; a son and daughter-in-law, John K. and Charlotte Pickell of Bloomsbury, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Dirk Struening of Ringoes, NJ; two grandchildren, James Stabile II and Brie Stabile both of Raritan, NJ; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Cindy Pickell of Branchville, NJ, Paul and Cheryl Olenick of High Bridge NJ, and Charles and Karen Olenick of Savannah, GA; and a sister-in-law, Connie Pickell of Flemington, NJ.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 6-8 PM in the funeral home.
