James J. Bassett Iii

May 28, 1958 — February 28, 2021

James Bassett III, age 62, of Ringoes, NJ passed on February 28th, 2021 at Capital Health Medical Center in Trenton, NJ.

Born in Somerville, NJ, son of the late James and Dolores (Geschwindner) Bassett Jr., he spent some of his life in Piscataway, NJ and the rest of his life in Ringoes, NJ.

A devoted husband, father, poppy, brother, uncle, and friend; Jim was a big teddy bear. Many saw Jim as a skilled contractor, race car driver, pheasant hunter, and especially someone you did not want to mess with. However, this is not how his children saw him. They saw him as the man that painted their nails, brushed their hair into pigtails, and would call you back if you said “Bye” instead of “See you later” or “I love you.” His daughter, Katelyn, enjoyed watching Flintstones everyday with her dad. He once sat in a Beyonce concert parking lot because he didn’t want his daughter, Jamie July, to go alone. He loved fishing and going to baseball games with his boys Scott and Rob. He loved dirt car racing, racing a Slingshot for many years and with many wins.

Someone once said, “Being successful means being kind, genuine, good hearted, and an open-minded person.” This was Jim. Even during the most trying times of his life, his first questions to others were “How are you?” and “What’s going on in your life?” Jim’s number one concern was others; not himself. Even during times of adversity, he would be more than willing to suffer if it meant others were happy.

Jim owned James Bassett III Painting and Paper Hanging for over 40 years as well as Pete and Jim’s Rich Luster Benjamin Moore paint store in Flemington, NJ for several years. He not only treated his clients with the most upmost respect but always cracked jokes and created comedic relief. He was the top of his class in his industry, but was especially gifted at wallpapering. Jim’s favorite color was purple and one of his favorite television shows was Gun Smoke.

Just like his wife, Kathy, watching old TV shows reruns while snuggled up with his dogs Marley and Rita was his happy place. Jim was heartbroken over the loss of his wife six months ago in August 2020.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Kathy Sabo-Bassett, of almost 30 years and his beloved step-son, Scott Sabo.

Surviving is a sister Teresa Bassett-Allen; and his children Robert and Jennifer Sabo, Katelyn Bassett, Jamie July Bassett, and his prized grandson, Jackson Robert Sabo, many cousins, friends, and loved ones.
