James John Bassett, Jr.

James John Bassett, Jr., age 90 years a 46-year resident of Ringoes NJ, passed away at home on Thursday, November 4, 2016 of natural causes.

Born in Brooklyn NY on August 28, 1926, he was the son of the late James John Sr. and Esther (Kearney) Bassett. James grew up in the Mount Horeb section of Martinsville NJ and later served in World War II in the US Navy. He was a professional housepainter in Bound Brook NJ as well as the Flemington area for over 50 years.

James loved playing the harmonica, dirt track racing, woodworking, collecting stamps and baseball cards. He was a lifelong NY Yankees fan and enjoyed spending time tending to his garden, as well enjoying a good cigar.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Dolores Geschwindner Bassett, and his grandson, Scott Sabo. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Bassett Allen of Greentown PA, his son and daughter-in-law, James and Katherine Bassett III of Ringoes NJ, his sister, Mary Hutchings of Finderne NJ, his grandchildren, Jamie Bassett, Katelyn Bassett, and Rob Sabo, as well his nieces and nephews, Sue, Patty, Kip, Joe, Lyn, Ann and Laurie.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ. Cremation was private. There are no calling hours.
