MMCS (SS) James M. Gulick, US Navy retiring in 1976 after 21 years of active duty, departed on Eternal Patrol, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home in Ladson, SC.
MMCS (SS) Gulick was born October 25, 1936 in Flemington, NJ to the late Asa and Ruth (Miller) Gulick, Sr. Jim graduated from Flemington High School in 1954 and enlisted in US Navy Sub School in 1955. He was a member of USSVI National, Charleston Base and the Holland Club since 2011.
After retiring from the Navy, Jim went to work for General Electric as a Nuclear Power Engineer, then for Quadrex Energy Services Corp as a Manager of Modifications and Maintenance, for Bogan & Co. as a Senior Project Manager, and for Starkist Tuna as a Project Manager. He also owned and operated Rolling Hills Campground in Taylorsville, KY, and most recently worked as an Independent Life Insurance Agent for Red Anchor Retirement Solutions in North Charleston, SC. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, camping, gardening and an occasional beer.
Jim is survived by his wife, Maria Luisa Castillo-Gulick, his sister Doris Bryk, first wife Rita Gulick, two daughters, Brenda Giles and Wendy Ehrnstrom, seven grandchildren, Daniel Gulick, David Gulick, Robert Dekker, Jr., James Dekker, Cory Ehrnstrom, Julia Ehrnstrom, Jesse Ehrnstrom, as well as two stepsons, Francisco Castillo and Jamie Lugo-Castillo.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. Friends and family will be received from 2:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
