James M. Phillips

James Michael Phillips, age 64 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, with his family by his side.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, September 4, 1959, he was the son of the late Joseph and Janice (Hendry) Phillips. He had resided in Flemington, NJ since 1994.

After receiving his bachelor's degree from The University of Iowa, he went on to be an Executive Sales Manager for Wilson, Champion, Skechers, Reebok, and Schutt, among other major corporations. His prolific career culminated with his retirement in 2023.

He met his beloved wife, Tracy, in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1984 spending the next 40 years together. They married on August 6th, 1988.

Jim was a founding member of the Flemington Bocce Club and an accomplished High School athlete holding several track and field records at Glenbard West High School in Illinois that still stand to this day.

Jim enjoyed many, many things. Among those, he most loved going on hikes with his dog, Masie, kayaking, playing golf, and also enjoyed other outdoor activities. He had a strong love for music, dancing, reading, and watching television. He loved spending time at the beach and was self-proclaimed world’s best body surfer. He traveled extensively throughout his life and always knew where to find the best food and best cup of coffee in any city.

What gave Jim the most happiness, however, was spending time with his friends and family. His door was always open, and he encouraged everyone to come over as often as they liked and spend as much time as they could. Jim was the life of every party, a quick-witted jokester who always brought laughter and joy. His presence was felt in every room he entered.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Tracy (Carroll) Phillips of Flemington, NJ; two sons and their spouses, Niki Phillips and his wife Aubrey of Flemington, NJ and Jordon Phillips and his wife Heather also of Flemington, NJ; as well as his grandson, Jack Phillips.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 27th from 2:00 – 3:30PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. A eulogy service will conclude the gathering from 3:30 – 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
