James W. Brown, age 77 years of Raritan Township, NJ, died Thursday, August 29, 2019, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in New Brunswick, NJ, May 30, 1942, son of the late John W. Brown and Dorothy Diller Cassel, he had formerly resided in Hillsborough Township, NJ and had resided in Raritan Township thirty-two years.
Jim was a dedicated English teacher who had a thirty year career as a high school educator. He was a graduate of Millersville University, Millersville, PA. where he received his BS degree in English and he received his MS degree in English from Trenton State College. His teaching career was spent at Penn Manor High School for two years and then at Bridgewater-Raritan High School District. After retiring from teaching, he was employed for five years in the communications department of Merck, Inc.
He was passionate about his teaching and loved education and teaching children. A former recipient of the “Teacher of the Year” award, Jim was an avid fisherman, aquarium, and model train enthusiast. He loved playing and telling stories with his grandchildren as well as food shopping, cooking and serving meals for his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-five years, Judith Fox Brown; two sons, James M. Brown of Whitehouse Station, NJ and John R. Brown of Clarksburg, Md.; a sister, Joan Hostetter of Lancaster, PA; two half-sisters, Nancy Ellen Steck of Brick, NJ and Cathy Karpowicz of Moorestown, NJ; and five grandchildren, James Brown, Michael Brown, William Brown, Brea Brown and Yanique Rae.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 12 Noon in the Flemington Baptist Church, 170 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Saturday 11:00 AM to Noon at the church. Burial will be in private in Cherryville Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
