Janet B. Silliman

Janet B. Silliman, age 76, died Sunday, January 31, 2021 at her home in High Bridge NJ, surrounded by her family. Born June 10, 1944, in Elizabeth NJ, Janet was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Bertha (Greenwell) Buzalski. She grew up in Cranford NJ, graduated from Cranford High School in the Class of 1962, and later attended Hartwick College Pre-Nursing program from 1962 through 1964. Janet graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Cornell University Hospital School of Nursing. Janet had a 34 year career as Registered Nurse in such areas as OB, Geriatrics, Oncology, and Hospice with certification in Oncology. Known to hospice staff as the ‘snow nurse’ when after riding a snow plow in the early morning hours during a blizzard she pronounced a hospice patient when the on call nurse could not make it from the opposite end of the county. Janet was a Founding member of local chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society, as well as a Founding member of the Courthouse Quilters Guild. She was a long-time member of the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church and sang in its Choir for many years. Her primary interests included music, quilting, preparing many delicious meals (as well as eating them!). She enjoyed her summer house on Lake George NY, her cats and Huskies, but most of all, she loved her family, who will all miss her dearly. Janet is survived by her husband, John W. Silliman, her sons and daughters-in-law, John T. and Lisa Silliman of High Bridge NJ, Guy and Debra Silliman of Bethlehem PA, her three grandchildren, John P. Silliman, Jacqueline Miller, and Isabel Silliman, her great-grandson, Ethan Miller, and her brother, Bruce Buzalski of North Carolina, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Cremation services are private under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
