Janet Burd Hoff

Janet Burd Hoff ,age 82 years, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, formally of Lambertville, left this life to join her husband George on April 25, 2011.

A life-long Lambertville resident, Janet was born on November 17, 1928. She was the valedictorian of her high school class at Lambertville High School and went on to spend 2 years at Drew University before completing her BS in Nursing at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia University.

She worked briefly in the emergency room at Mercer Hospital, leaving to become a nurse in the private practice of Dr. Kenneth Leiby of New Hope where she worked first as his daily nurse and then his Saturday nurse for many years. She was the school nurse at Delaware Township Elementary and Middle School for 25 years, retiring in 1994.

Janet was member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Victory chapter. She was a past president of the West Amwell Elementary School PTA, secretary of the South Hunterdon Regional High School Band Boosters and recording secretary of the Fannie Abbott Memorial Association. She was active in the local senior citizens association.

Janet was predeceased by her husband George W Hoff, her parents Walter T. Burd and Katherine Yos Burd, and her brother Walter (Ned) Burd.

She is survived by her sisters Carol Myers and Judy Atwood, both of Lambertville NJ,; her daughter Betzi Cahill and her husband Bud and the true joys of her life, her granddaughters Kasey and Kathy all of Egg Harbor Township, NJ as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 7 – 9 in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Seashore Gardens Foundation, 22 W. Jimmie Leeds Road, Galloway Township, NJ 08205 which supports the Seashore Gardens Living Center where Janet was wonderfully cared for as she fought her battle with dementia.
