Jay Wallace McDonald, of Newport, NC, died on Monday, July 30, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. McDonald was born August 1, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Robert and Marguerite (Osmer) McDonald, and raised in Cranford, NJ. Retiring as an information systems senior staff member from Lucent Technologies (formerly Western Electric Corp.), he and his wife Kathy moved from Flemington, NJ to Newport, NC in 1999. He was a member of St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City, NC.

Jay’s great love was always airplanes. Having gotten his private pilot’s license in 1956, he enjoyed flying over Hunterdon County, NJ, where he lived for thirty years. He was also an active ham radio operator for many years, earning a number of awards including “five-band DXCC”. He particularly enjoyed talking all over the world via Morse Code. He was a member of the ARRL (American Radio Relay League), a former member of the Cherryville Repeater Assoc. in Hunterdon County, NJ, a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, and a member of the Crystal Coast Radio Control Club, having become very active flying radio controlled airplanes after moving to Carteret County.

Jay is survived by his wife of forty years, Mary Kathryn (Kathy) McDonald of Newport, NC, a son, Daniel McDonald and wife Lisa of Whitehouse Station, NJ, a daughter, Elizabeth Davis and husband Marc of Annadale, NJ, and two grandsons, Michael Davis and Joshua McDonald. He is also survived by two sisters, Adair Mika of Deerton, MI and Nancy Vodraska of Pittstown, NJ as well as a brother, Brian McDonald of Wellington, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
