Jean G. Slattery, age 99 years, formerly of Flemington, NJ, died Monday, December 28, 2020, at Kirkland Village, Bethlehem, PA, where she had resided since 1999.
Born in Locktown, NJ, November 27, 1921, Jean was the daughter of the late Richard and Laura Eick Goodell. She had resided in the Flemington area all her life until 1999.
She was a 1938 graduate of Flemington High School. A teacher most of her life, she formerly taught in the East Orange School System and then taught for most of her teaching career in the Flemington-Raritan School System, retiring in 1986.
Jean was a graduate of Trenton State Teachers College (now The College of New Jersey) and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Columbia University.
She was a member of the Flemington Baptist Church; the Flemington Woman’s Club and started the book club at Kirkland Assisted Living as well as serving on the Worship Committee there.
Her husband, William P. Slattery, died in 1995, her brother, William C. Goodell in 2017 and her brother, Richard D. Goodell in 2014.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and David Goetz of Flemington, NJ; a son, Richard J. Slattery of Chalfont, PA; five grandchildren, Christopher Goetz, Erica Wall, Angie Conforti, Becky Goetz and Courtney Boetsma; and nine great grandchildren, Tyler, Emory, Grayden, Navey, Ruby, Frances, Riley, Iris and Maggie.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 1:00 PM in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
