Joan Mary Staiano, of Kingwood Township, NJ died Friday, October 7, 2005, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. She was 82.
Born in Tamworth, England, February 21, 1923, daughter of the late Percy G. and Mary A. Newman Pearson, she was a teacher in England. She received her teaching degree in 1943 from the Dudley Training College of the University of Birmingham.
In June 1945, she married an American Soldier, Anthony Staiano. She arrived Easter 1946 in New York aboard the Queen Mary. She then resided in Hempstead,NY and was a bookkeeper. She moved to Kingwood Township, NJ in 1955 and operated a cafe in Flemington, NJ with her husband.
Mrs. Staiano was a lifelong artist painting in oils and had an avid interest in politics and was a voracious reader, especially of spy novels. She was member of the New Hope Art League.
Her husband, Anthony Staiano, died in 1995 and a sister, Margaret Bradley, died in 2004. Surviving are son, Sal Staiano, of Delaware Township, NJ; a niece, Janet Thompson, and nephew, Michael Taylor, both of Leicestershire, England.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, l47 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. Please visit www.holcombefisher.com for further information or to send condolences.
