John A. Famula

John A. Famula, age 89 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Newark, NJ, April 25, 1928, son of the late John V. and Sophie Horn Famula, he formerly resided in Union & Mountainside NJ, respectively.

A United States Army Veteran, John was a landscape-contractor for forty-five years owning and operating his business, J & D Famula Landscaping. Later in his career he worked as a groundskeeper for Echo Lake County Club, Westfield, NJ. At Echo Lake Country Club he became known as 'the Bed Man' as Club members and head groundskeeper noted the outstanding attention to detail he displayed in his work on the gardens throughout the course.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Treasurer of the North Jersey Landscapers Association for several years.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years, Grace Lecaro Famula; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ken Arold of Ringoes, NJ; and two brothers, Donald Famula of Davis, CA and Edward Famula of Palm Beach, FL.

John enjoyed a simple life with his family which included reading, word search puzzles and tending to his garden in his restful time. He was a consummate Gentleman, a man that would still offer a lady his seat or hold a door open for you or help one on with your coat.

A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Jarlath Quinn will be celebrated Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM in St. Alphonsus Church, 54 East Prospect St, Hopewell, NJ. Calling hours will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private.
