John Albert Van Nuys

John Albert Van Nuys, died Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at his home in Raritan Township NJ.

Born May 29, 1938 in Somerville NJ, John was the son of the late George and Laura (Watson) Van Nuys Sr. He lived in Hunterdon County NJ all of his life.

A 1956 graduate of Flemington High School where he played on the basketball and baseball teams, John attended Rutgers University and served in the US Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961.

He was a lab technician at CIBA Animal Health Research 1964-1965 and then was Sanitary Inspector for the Hunterdon County Health Dept. 1965-2001. John was also a supervisor for the Hunterdon County Soil Conservation Service for fifty years (1970-2020). He was also a member of the Hunterdon County Agricultural Development Board.

He was an active member of the Hunterdon County Marine Corps League who respected his country, supported veterans and was a true Marine (orrah & Semper Fi). John was also an avid hunter who enjoyed sports especially watching his daughters’ sports activities. John slid effortlessly between social groups because everyone was his friend and judgement of others wasn’t his thing.

In addition to his parents, John was pre-deceased by his brother, George Van Nuys Jr. He is survived by wife, Evelyn Pittenger Van Nuys, his daughters and sons-in-law, Adrienne and Joseph Olcott of Pittstown NJ and Laurie and David Caramanico of Springfield PA, as well as his sister, Laura Klima of Neshanic NJ, his brother, William Van Nuys of Fairview NC, and his seven grandchildren, Hayden and Anderson Olcott, and Luke, Rosy, Davis, Cory, and Miranda Caramanico.

A public graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Union Cemetery, Boss Road, Ringoes NJ. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.

Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.
