John B. Glesmann, M.D., age 88 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at his residence.

Born in Rome, NY, November 9, 1920, son of the late Louis G. and Eleanor Brainerd Glesmann, he had resided in East Amwell Township for the past fourteen years, having previously lived in Somerset and Bridgewater, NJ.

Dr. Glesmann received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and then attained his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine. He was the retired Director of the Department of Anesthesiology of Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, NJ, where he worked for over fifty years. He also worked for fifteen years concurrently at the Carrier Clinic, Belle Mead, NJ.

A United States Army Veteran of World War II, Dr. Glesmann was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain in 1948. A longtime member of the American Medical Association, he was also a member of the US Trotting Association and greatly enjoyed horses and sailing.

Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Sylvia Hoffmann Glesmann; three sons, Glenn Glesmann of Wayland, MA; Eric Glesmann of Remsen, NY and Jonathan Glesmann of Andover, MA; seven grandchildren, Heidi, Erica, Eli, Richard, Kurt and Nicole Glesmann and Christine Coen; and his longtime companion, Linda Adams of East Amwell Township, NJ.
