John C. "Red" Devlin, age 79 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Monday, November 15, 2010 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, October 4, 1931, son of the late Edmund and Josephine Cunningham Devlin, he was a longtime resident of Staten Island, NY prior to moving to Flemington two years ago.
A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Devlin was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. He was retired from the New York City Sanitation Department, where he had worked over twenty-five years.
Mr. Devlin was a longtime communicant of St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills, Staten Island, NY and was currently a communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ. Additionally, he was a member of the Retired Uniform Sanitation Worker's of New York City, NY.
His wife of fifty years, Jeannette Duffee Devlin, died July 31, 2010. He was also pre-deceased by three siblings, Terence, Peter and Joan Devlin.
Surviving are three children, Sean Devlin and his companion Susan of Barnegat, NJ, Coleen and husband Michael Zullo of Raritan Township, NJ, and Tara Devlin of Queens, NY; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Jack, Courtney, Bryan, Kerrianne, Brendan and Kaitlyn; and four siblings, Edmund Devlin, Aileen Sorensen, Timothy Devlin and Patricia Blackford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Entombment will follow in Immaculate Conception Mausoleum, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ (on the grounds of Immaculate Conception Parish).
