John F. Larue

John F. LaRue, age 68 years, of Flemington, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at his residence. Born in Oneonta, NY, May 18, 1951, he was the son of the late John “Jack” C. and Helen Stockholm LaRue. A 1969 graduate of Hunterdon Central High School, John received his bachelor’s degree from Kean University. A former bartender at the Three Bridges Tavern, John served as the Superintendent of Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ, for over thirty-five years, until his retirement in 2017. John was a member of the Flemington Fire Department since 1981 and remained active through this year. He served as the longtime Treasurer of the Department, and as the Secretary/Treasurer of Steamer Company #1. He was also active in the Relief Association and Exempt Association. His dedication to the Department and his community for nearly four decades is greatly appreciated. John was an avid fan of racing and driver himself. He loved his racing family, and his home track of Snydersville. He was also an avid NY Yankees fan. John was predeceased by his wife, Sherri P. LaRue, in 2011. Surviving are his wife, and love of his life of six years, Barbara LaRue; his children and their spouses: Fred and Erin Gilbert of Hampton, NJ, Jackie and Alex Petrilak of Glen Gardner, NJ, Billy and Katie LaRue of Flemington, NJ, and Jessica Maffei of Bridgewater, NJ; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Joe Costa of Hillsborough, NJ; his eleven grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Shadow. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 from 4-8 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. The Flemington Fire Department will have a service and last call at 8 PM. Interment will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ.
