John F. Paulsen, Sr.

November 22, 1954 — December 2, 2020

John Francis Paulsen, Sr., age 66, died Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Atlantic Health Systems – Morristown after a brief illness.

Born November 22, 1954, in Westwood NJ, John was the son of the late Theodore and Elizabeth (Van Der Linde) Paulsen, Jr. In New Jersey, he lived at different times in his life in Basking Ridge, Mountainside, Flemington and Mendham Township, as well as in Delray Beach in Florida.

John received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Montclair University, and later, his MBA from New York University.

John began his professional career in Finance with CitiBank in New York, eventually working for JP Morgan-Chase Bank, Ernst & Young, and Manufacturers Hanover before starting his own financial services company, ASI Financial Services. An entrepreneur by heart and motorcycle enthusiast, in 2000, John began a Yamaha-Suzuki motorcycle and water-craft franchise dealership in Kinderhook NY, “Xtreme Power Sports.” In 2005, he opened the Kawasaki-Yamaha dealership in Flemington NJ.

John loved to ride motorcycles with his friends and especially his son, John Jr., often for Bike Week in Laconia NH and Daytona Beach FL, as well as many cross-country trips to various parts of the country. He owned many boats through the years, loved to fish, and flew model airplanes with his son and father. Some of his favorite places to visit were the many trips to DisneyWorld in Florida, Hilton Head SC and, most recently, a memorable trip to Ireland with long-time companion, Pauline Aubin.

While John was a professional and entrepreneur, he clearly lived to spend time with his children. He will be missed for many things including his passion for sending and receiving greeting cards, as well as the many thoughtful and personalized gifts that he was famous for.

John is survived by his three children, Deborah Paulsen of Flemington, John F. Paulsen, Jr. of Flemington and Anne Paulsen of Randolph NJ; his grandson, Sebastian Vasconez, his long-time companion, Pauline Aubin of Morristown NJ, his brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Brenda Paulsen III of California, his sister and brother-in-law, Renee and Steve Mahl of Texas, his nephew, Paul Steiner of Skillman NJ, and his niece, Brandi Steiner of Texas, as well as many close friends.
