John G. Caka

John G. Caka, age 94 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Saturday, November 18, 2017, at his home. Born in Corona, Queens, NY, February 26, 1923, son of the late John and Clara Stueber Caka, he had resided in Hunterdon County since 1926, first at Cherryville, NJ, then in Flemington, NJ. A 1941 graduate of Flemington High School, John was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, enlisting in 1941 and was discharged with the rank of 2nd. Lieutenant after a bad airplane crash left him partly paralyzed. He continued his natural talent and passion for flying and teaching until the age of eighty, when he slipped in sideways in a crosswind at Sky Manor Airport, landing like the pro he was. John was a fingerprint operator with the NJ State Police for forty-six years starting his employment there in 1947 and retiring in 1993. He was a longtime active member of the Flemington United Methodist Church. He was known to all as a good man and the best Dad ever. He met his wife, Jean Angle Caka, at the NJ State Police headquarters and they married in 1957. Jean died in 1977 and a son, John Earl Caka, died in 2010. He was also predeceased by his brothers, George Caka, in 1945, and Richard Caka, in 1995. Surviving are a son, Jerald Edward Caka, of Flemington, NJ; two grandchildren, John S. Caka and Jacob S. Caka; a great grandson, Jonas Caka; and three sisters, Barbara Gordon of Switzerland, Claire Holmsen of Clayton, CA. and Priscilla Dunn of Austin, TX. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 24, 2017, at 11:00 AM in the Flemington United Methodist Church, corner of Main Street and Maple Avenue, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
