John "Jack" Edson Coleman, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at his home at the age of 92.
He was born the son of Edson and Oda Coleman on June 27, 1917 in Staten Island, NY but had lived in Hunterdon County for the past eighty-two years.
Jack was a Farmer all of his life, being raised on a farm near Ringoes, NJ, then becoming Manager of a Guernsey herd at Springwater Farms for over twenty years, and later running his own farm before retiring in the late 1970's.
He also served as a member and President of the Delaware Township School Board for fifteen years and later drove a bus for the school for twenty years. He played baseball for the Dilts Corner Team in his younger years and was a Charter member of the Sergeantsville Fire Company.
After retiring, Jack and his wife Dorothy did a lot of traveling and camping with the Jersey Gypsies and spent winters at their home in Florida. He always enjoyed his garden and kept his property immaculate.
Jack was a member of the Old Rocks Church, the Delaware Township Seniors and the West Amwell Wonders. In his youth, he was a member of the Mt. Airy 4-H Club and has continued to support the club and the Dairy Shows at the Flemington Fair and at the new County Fairgrounds.
Jack is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kusant Coleman. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2009. He is also survived by five children, Betty Jane Hunt, of West Amwell Township, NJ, Nancy Bachardy and her husband Ted, of Flemington, NJ, Joann Vieth and her husband Ken, of Rosemont, NJ, Jack Coleman, Jr. and his wife Donna, of Ronks, PA and Debi Brenner and her husband Frank, of East Amwell Township, NJ; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in the Barber Burial Grounds, Delaware Township, NJ.
