John L. Lutz, of Stockton, NJ, passed away April 2, 2017, at the age of 79. He was born June 19, 1937, son of John L. and Irene A. Lutz of Elizabeth, NJ.
When John was fifteen, his father died, leaving him to manage the welding shop and supporting his mother, as well as finishing high school. John was an innovator in the field of heavy steel fabrication, building and selling his own machinery. He moved from his father's welding shop to much bigger plant in Union, NJ and then to an even larger facility on Route 12 in Kingwood Township, NJ. In 1999 he was awarded an honorary degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ. His knowledge and expertise in this very specialized field was well known and respected.
John was a pilot, farmer, boater and gun enthusiast, maintaining a farm in Stockton and a home in Kennedyville, MD. He was a civic individual who served on the Kingwood Township Planning Board and Kingwood Township School Board, Skylands Bank, 200 Club and the Italian- American Club of Hunterdon County.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patti Lutz and three of his four children, Mary Ann Lutz, Margaret Zimmerman and Patricia Barabas and their mother, Margaret M. Durkin as well as seven grandchildren and a great grandchild. His son, John L. Lutz, III, passed away in 2010. He was also pre-deceased by his second wife, Jane Finelli.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 10:30 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday, April 14, 2017, 5:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home.
