John P. Staats, age 96 years, a lifelong resident of Ringoes, NJ, died on Monday, August 17, 2009 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born on January 30, 1913, he was the son of the late John B. Staats and Elizabeth Jessen Staats.
As a young man, he worked on the Bond Family Farm in Ringoes. Additionally, he worked for the Mutual Store in Flemington, NJ and also worked for L.K. Walton in Lambertville for fifty years.
A graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, NJ, John was very active in his community. He was a former member of the Ringoes Grange #12; a founding member of the Calvary Church of Amwell; he was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Amwell Ridge Cemetery Association for over forty-five years; a member and Past President of the East Amwell Senior Citizens Club; and a founding member of the Romeo Saturday Breakfast Club.
John was a passionate New York Mets fan and avid traveler. He also was a devoted fan of his son John's and his grandson Peter's softball teams.
His loving wife of forty-six years, Elsie Anderson Staats, died in 1994.
A loving father, grandfather, brother and favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Moustafa Salama of Flemington, NJ; his son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Lisa Staats of Sergeantsville, NJ; his grandson, Peter J. Staats of Sergeantsville, NJ; and two sisters, Gladys Staats of Ringoes, NJ and Anna Fullerton of Concord, CA.
Another sister, Marion E. Staats, died earlier this year.
John cherished the time he spent with his family and friends and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will take place Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Church of Amwell, 24 Highway 202, Ringoes, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Amwell Ridge Cemetery, Ringoes, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
