John Pyatt Gaskill

John Pyatt Gaskill, age 85 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2008, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Frenchtown, NJ, February 5, 1923, he was the son of the late Jacob and Edith Pyatt Gaskill. He had resided in the Croton, NJ area all of his life.

John graduated from Flemington High School in 1939 and Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA in 1947. He honorably served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific in World War II, and later served in the Naval Officers Program.

After graduating college, he worked in the advertising department of the Newark Star Ledger. He was president of Gaskill & Johnson Advertising, Newark, NJ, then of John P. Gaskill Advertising, Mountainside, NJ.

John was a member of the Union County Auto Dealers Association, and a former officer of that organization. He was a member of Host Lodge F.& A.M., High Bridge, NJ; Crescent Temple Shrine in Trenton, NJ, and the Hunterdon County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Croton Rod and Gun Club. In 1963, he organized the Hunterdon Goldwater Association and later was County Chairman of James Wallworks's campaign for Governor. John was a founding member of the Delaware Township Republican Club and served on the Delaware Township Board of Education. John was also a founding member of the Union County 200 Club, the Hunterdon Horseman, and the Hunterdon County Softball League.

He was married to the late Lucille Weidler.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Bush Gaskill; four children: Randi Abbott and husband Terry of Bath, PA; Lani Kimenhour and husband Doug of Green Lane, PA; John P. Gaskill II and wife Cheryl of Flemington, NJ; and Brett Gaskill of Essex Junction, VT, and ten grandchildren. He was married to the late Lucille Weidler.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Frenchtown Cemetery, Frenchtown, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7-9 PM in the funeral home and from 9 AM until time of service Friday.
