John William Huenecke

John William Huenecke, age 85 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Friday, February 11, 2005 at his residence.

Born in Chicago, IL, January 26, 1920, son of the late John and Hattie Lietz Huenecke, he had resided in Raritan Township since 1950, having previously resided in Stockton, NJ.

A United States Army Veteran of WWII, Mr. Huenecke was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. A carpenter and cabinet maker by trade, Mr. Huenecke trained inmates in carpentry skills at Mountainview Correctional Facility, Clinton Township, NJ for over ten years. Prior to working at the correctional institute, he worked many years at the State Hospital in Trenton.

He was a member of Shanty Shifters Camping Club of New Jersey, the Hunterdon County YMCA Canoe Club, Flutterwheels Square Dance Club of New Jersey and was an avid theatre-goer. Mr. Huenecke was also a longtime member of the Flemington Baptist Church, Flemington, NJ.

His wife, Helen Ent Huenecke, died in 1992. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Peter Gilbert of Collingswood, NJ; two brothers, Robert and wife Joyce Huenecke of Calumet City, IL and Ed Huenecke of Lamonte, IL; a sister, Mary Rose Mulneckle in WI; a sister-in-law, Grace Huenecke of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Melissa Knight and her husband Matthew of West Rutland, VT, Jonathan Gilbert of Newark, DE, Michael Gilbert of High Point, NC and Victoria Gilbert of Burlington, Ontario, Canada ; two great granddaughters, Rachel Alexis Knight and Hailey Rose Knight of West Rutland, VT; and a nephew, Herbert Niece of Stockton, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ. Calling hours will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
