Flemington resident; Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather & US Army Veteran
Joseph F. Brescia, 99, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Country Arch Nursing Home in Pittstown, NJ. Members of his family were with him at his passing. He was a resident of Flemington since 2013.
Joe was born on July 17, 1920 in Clinton, MA. He graduated from Clinton High School where he excelled in football and baseball. He was the husband of Mabel Brescia, who preceded him in death earlier this year, the father of Nancy J. Fearing of Flemington and Ann Hougasian of Putnam, CT. He was also survived by Son-in-laws Jack Fearing (Flemington) and Richard Hougasian (Putnam), grandchildren Jason Fearing of Roseville, CA and his wife Jessica, Michael Hougasian of New Milford, CT and Kellie Hougasian of Waterbury, CT. He was predeceased by his parents, Pasquale and Anna Brescia and brothers, Victor and George and sister Mary, also of Clinton, MA.
He was a US Army veteran and a proud member of America’s “Greatest Generation”. He served in the Army Medical Corps with the 68th Army Field Hospital in the European theater from 1942-1945 during World War II. He was a press operator at the Colonial Press in Clinton for over 20 years and later worked at Cape Cod Radiology as a courier driver.
Joe and Mabel lived in Clinton, MA for many years raising their two daughters. They retired to Centerville on Cape Cod and lived there for over 30 years. They enjoyed countless friends and the many beautiful beaches, picturesque sand dunes and the iconic islands that surrounded them. They especially enjoyed walking the beach and sharing the outstanding seafood with their cherished family. Joe enjoyed fishing with his Son-in-laws and grandchildren, discussing the ever-changing Cape Cod weather and watching his beloved Boston professional sports teams.
Funeral services will be held at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ on Thursday, August 1, 2019 beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at 11:00 am with full military honors at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Washington’s Crossing, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
