Joseph Hilzer, age 91 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Born in New York City, NY, April 26, 1919, he was the son of the late Rubin and Yetta Mach Hilzer.
He was a 1941 graduate of Cornell University receiving his B.S. in Agriculture. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of Captain. He was a longtime partner at the Flemington Fur Company, serving as Executive Vice-President in charge of sales, retiring in 1985.
A resident of Flemington and Raritan Township for over sixty years, Mr. Hilzer enjoyed his winters in Singer Island, FL.
He was formerly President of the Flemington Jewish Community Center; former member and President of the Flemington-Raritan Board of Education; former member and chair of the Raritan Township Planning Board; former member of the Flemington Rotary Club; and was a member of the Jewish War Veterans.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Doris Benjamin Hilzer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Denise Morgan Hilzer; two sons and their wives, Lawrence and Randee Hilzer, and Robert and Esther Hilzer; his sister Estelle Kirschner; his brother-in-law, S. Rodgers Benjamin and his wife Isabel; his grandchildren: Gregg Hilzer and his wife Alison, Evan Hilzer, Valerie Breslow and her husband Evan, and Scott Titus; his great-grandchildren: Lauren and Samantha Breslow; his nieces and nephews: Judith Masta, Barbara Webski and her husband Harry, Andrew Kirschner and his wife Heidi, Pamela Gale, Robert Benjamin and his wife Mary, Gina Benjamin and her husband David Kuhnle; also surviving are Denise's family, Peggy Anderson, Jeffrey Anderson, Cynthia Wiley and her husband Donald; and grandchildren, Emily and Bradley Doliner; Samuel and Sally Anderson; and Drew, Jeffrey, Robby, and Meg Wiley.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday at 11 AM in the Flemington Jewish Community Center, 5 Sergeantsville Road, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in the Flemington Jewish Community Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ. All arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
