Josephine A. Van Marter

Josephine A. Van Marter, age 96 years, of Cortland, NY, formerly of Ringoes, NJ, died on Monday, October 25, 2021, at Hospice Care House, Ithaca, NY.

Born in New York City, NY on May 22, 1925, she had resided in the Ringoes area most of her life, until moving to Cortland, NY in 2004.

Josie was a 1943 graduate of Flemington High School and was employed by the Hunterdon County National Bank, Flemington, NJ and later by the Flemington National Bank & Trust Company, Flemington, NJ, from which she retired in 1994.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Amwell Valley Fire Company; a former member of the East Amwell Senior Citizens and was a former volunteer at the Hunterdon Medical Center Gift Shop. After moving to Cortland, NY, she became an active member of the Red Hat Society; the Homer Ceramic Group and the Groton Senior Club.

Josie also loved shopping and traveling to the casinos. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her husband, William F. Van Marter, Jr., died in 1984.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Jane and Bud Belonsoff, of Locke, NY; her son and daughter-in-law, William F. and Vicki Van Marter III, of Franklin, NC; four grandchildren, Buddy Belonsoff, Tracey Lynn Smith and her husband Elijah, JoAnna L. Verhoest and her husband Patrick, Michelle R. Welsh and her husband Tony; and four great-grandchildren, Cas Welsh, Nikole Welsh, Emma Verhoest, and Joshua Verhoest.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ followed by burial in Amwell Ridge Cemetery, Larison’s Corner, NJ. Calling hour will be on Saturday prior to the service from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home.
