Josephine (“Jo”) Cullen died peacefully at Independence Manor in Raritan Township NJ on November 11, 2022. She was 99 years young. Her love of gardening, painting, and of befriending everyone she met will live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Jo moved to Flemington in 1959 and spent her days juggling her responsibilities as homemaker, mother of five children, and bookkeeper of the family business. She was married for 66 years to the love of her life, Wallace J. Cullen, former president of Mechanical Precision, Inc., Flemington. The couple shared many passions including fine dining, dancing, Broadway musicals, and world travel. Even with all these activities, she still managed to keep a perfect house, though the perfect cake continued to elude her.
In 2014, two years after her husband died, Jo moved to Independence Manor, where she continued to enjoy painting, reading, and spending time with family and old and new friends.
Over the years, Jo became devoted to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Flemington and visited their monastery throughout her life. She was also a lover of talk radio and often discussed daily news events and politics with her children. She was an enthusiast who never stopped learning—or living.
Family members will continue to hold Jo dear to their hearts. In addition to her husband, Jo was predeceased by her son, Wallace J. Cullen, Jr. and her son-in-law, Joseph Jacoby, who both passed away in 2020. She is survived by four children: Jodi Jacoby, Linda Cullen Alexander (Joe), Michael Cullen (Cindy), and Kim Cullen Black (Keith); nine grandchildren: Joseph Jacoby, Jr., Katie Jacoby, Sarah Jacoby, Jessica Menick, Lindsay Cullen, Courtney Alexander, Kerry Cullen, Josh Cullen, and Alex Lawton; and three great-grandchildren: Christopher and Julia Menick and Howie Jacoby.
