Josephine "Josie" Morgan passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was 91 years old.
Josie grew up in New York City where her father, who emigrated from Sicily, had a shoe sales and repairs business. When she was 16, her family moved to Hunterdon County where she would meet her husband, John Morgan. They were married after he returned from World War 2 and John set to work building their family home on the plot next door to her parents. They would live there for fifty+ years and raise their three children, John, Ed, and Joanne.
Josie worked as a cashier for the Flemington Acme and learned early on how to make every dollar count and provide the best she could for her family. When she retired, she went to work as a crossing guard at the middle school in Flemington. This was by far her favorite job and she could be seen every day for 20+ years in sun, rain and snow. She enjoyed waving to the children on the busses which included her oldest grandchildren when she first started out and talking the children that walked through her intersection. She continued her duties until two weeks before her death.
Josie was an avid needle worker. She loved to cross-stitch, crocheting and knitting. A walk through her home shows the mastery she had developed and it was a skill she passed on to the next two generations. She was in multiple clubs including FCE in her semi-retirement to socialize and continue doing them. She was also a great fan of Frank Sinatra and she would often tell her family of how her brothers would take her swing dancing and the great times they used to have.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings and her husband, John Morgan. She is survived by John Morgan, Ed Morgan, Joanne and Carl Johnson, Judy Morgan, Jennifer Morgan, Ed and Yasmin Morgan, Kathryn Morgan, Christopher and Ali Johnson, Jaden Morgan and Lucas Morgan.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 22, 2016, at 12:30 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.
