Julia Holsinger

September 1, 1929 — April 30, 2018

Julia Holsinger (nee Vigliotti), age 88, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2018, in Cherryville, NJ. She was the beloved wife for 47 years of the late William (2003); loving mother of Cynthia McMullin and Floyd Holsinger; devoted grandmother of Arlene Rose Holsinger. She was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Julia is a lifelong Staten Islander, being born in Graniteville in 1929, and relocated to Westerleigh in 1965. Mrs. Holsinger was an alumna of Port Richmond High School and then attended Staten Island Community College. After graduation she became a Secretary for various companies in Manhattan. Additionally, she was a Poll Worker for the Board of Elections. In 1974 Julia returned to the work force after being a stay at home Mom. She later became the Assistant Librarian at Horrmann's Library at Wagner College. Julia retired in 1995 after her final position as a Secretary to the Director of Surgery at the former St. Vincent's Hospital.

Mrs. Holsinger was very active in the community and participated in organizations such as the Willowbrook Chapter of AARP, The Todt Hill Friendship Club, CYO Senior Guild, Westerleigh Improvement Society, Port Richmond Alumni Association, and Order of the Eastern Star-Beacon Light Chapter and member of the Red Hat Society. Julia was a Den Mother and Assistant Girl Scout Leader at Christ Methodist Church. In her later years she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was an avid fan of country music and attended numerous concerts with her husband and collected many albums and tapes. She was also an avid reader of novels and autobiographies; loved to cook, bake, sew, knit, crochet, doing arts and crafts, quilting, and doing crossword puzzles. Julia also loved to travel, and her trips included traveling to Germany, Austria, Italy, Hawaii, and other various parts of the United States.

Funeral Service at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 2 to 7 pm.

Local arrangements were under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
