Katherine L. McElwain, age 92 years, of Silver Spring, MD, died on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Renaissance Gardens, Riderwood Village.
Born in Ree Heights, SD, August 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Gardner and Ruth Speicher Gardner.
After her marriage to Keith M. McElwain in Chicago, IL, she lived over 20 years in Fairfield, CT, and over 30 years in Flemington, NJ. She moved to Riderwood Village, a retirement community, in 2002. Katherine had a Masters degree in Library science, working in the Fairfield Public Library as well as the Hunterdon County Library.
She enjoyed her family, sewing, gardening, playing the organ, playing bridge, and golfing. While living in Flemington, she was a member of the Flemington United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Keith, died in 1989. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela McElwain Brown of Eden Prairie, MN, and Angela Bednarczyk of Silver Spring, MD, three grandchildren: Keith McElwain, Kirk McElwain, and Katherine Smith and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment will be on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 2 PM in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There will be no calling hours.
