READINGTON TWP. - Larry A. Muir, Ph.D., of Readington Township died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at home. He was 60. Born in Johnston, Ohio, he was the son of Allen and Virginia Muir. He grew up on a dairy farm in Johnston, Ohio and later moved to Readington Township. Dr. Muir earned three degrees from Ohio State University in Animal Science. He received The Distinguished Alumni Award from Ohio State University in 1995. He was a retired vice-president of Alpharma where he was responsible for worldwide animal health research and development from 1985 to 2000. Dr. Muir had previously retired from Merck in 1985, after 15 years as director of animal health research. Recently, he owned and operated Muir Consultants. He was a member of the Johnston, Ohio United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, and all kinds of sports. He coached local youth baseball, basketball and soccer teams. He was an avid genealogist, traveling to Scotland to research family history. He is survived by his wife Beatrice Muir; one daughter, Heather Muir Spanbauer of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Bradford Muir of Flemington and Ryan Muir of Readington Township; two sisters, Carla Muir of Johnston, Ohio and Nancy Lechter of Kinsman, Ohio; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday in Kinsman, Ohio. All local arrangements were handled by the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington.
