Laurence B. Lane, Sr.

Laurence B. Lane, Sr., age 91 years, of Hillsborough Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in Raritan Health & Extended Care Center, Raritan, NJ.

Born in Somerville, NJ, September 21, 1915, son of the late John C. and Katherine Bellis Lane, he had resided in Hillsborough Township all his life.

He was a longtime Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service. Additionally, he was employed by JS Covert & Sons, Neshanic Station, NJ until 1942. He also owned and operated Hillsborough Lawn & Garden, Hillsborough, NJ for over sixty years.

Active in the Hillsborough Township Municipal Government for many years, he was at various times the Hillsborough Township Court Clerk, former Chairman of the Hillsborough Township Planning Board, former member of the Hillsborough Township Board of Education and from 1957-1967 was the Hillsborough Township Clerk.

A sixty-three year member of the Clover Hill Reformed Church, Mr. Lane was a member and Past President of the Neshanic Fire Company and was General Administrator of the Neshanic Cemetery Association from 1950-2007.

His wife of sixty-one years, A. Ruth Fenwick Lane, died in 2000.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jean Lane Gibson and Stewart B. Gibson of Hillsborough Township, NJ; two sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence B. and Barbara Lane, Jr. of Morristown, NJ and Jeffrey W. and Nancy S. Lane of Flemington, NJ; five grandchildren, Jill Zartman, Lane Sisson, Ashley Lane, Lesley Lane and Gregory Lane; and five great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Molly Zartman and Taylor, Allie and Kristofer Sisson.

Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Clover Hill Reformed Church, 890 Amwell Road, Clover Hill, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
