Larry Levine, a lifelong Hunterdon County resident and local businessman, died on Friday, July 10, 2009
For more than sixty years, Larry operated Flemington Farm Equipment Co. and Larry’s Service Station, where he would fix almost anything mechanical. Known for his ingenuity in solving difficult problems, Larry was also known for telling a good story to friends and visitors. He was respected for his integrity, intelligence, and dry sense of humor.
A proud veteran of World War II, he served in the US Navy in the Pacific and North Africa aboard the fleet oiler USS Cossatot. Larry was a charter member of the VFW Post #7856, Flemington, NJ.
He enjoyed history and traveling to historic places in the United States as well as reading the poetry of Robert Burns and the short stories of O. Henry.
Larry left a legacy to his family in terms of the values he lived by. He was a man of great honesty, loyalty, dedication and diligence. Family and friendship were of paramount importance to him. He was always there for those he loved and he will be very deeply missed by all who loved him so dearly.
Larry was predeceased by his sisters Esther Shapoff and Harriet Wolfson. He is survived by Beatrice, his loving wife of sixty-eight years. Also surviving are sons, Joel and wife Lnor of Atlanta, GA and Lee and wife Jane of Allentown, PA and daughter Ellen and husband Manuel Barbas of Syracuse, NY, as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
