Leda M. Stevens

Leda M. Stevens, age 85 years, of Readington Township, NJ, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, with her family by her side.

Born in Somerville, NJ, April 13, 1939, Leda was the daughter of the late Charles and Marion (Porter) Hockenbury. 

She was a 1957 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School and was formerly employed as a school bus driver for the Hunterdon Central School District for 35 years, until retirement.

Leda was a lifelong resident of the Flemington area and was an active member of the Stanton Reformed Church, 1 Stanton Mountain Road, Stanton, NJ. 

Additionally, Leda was an avid, quilter, knitter, sewer, and crocheter. In fact, several of her quilts and shawls were used by the Stanton Reformed Church and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, PA.

She was also a volunteer for many years for Puppies Behind Bars at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, Clinton, NJ. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Melvin Hockenbury.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Willard S. Stevens; three daughters, Cheryl Stevens, of Sanford, FL, Beverly McCann, of Nolensville, TN, and Bonnie Garritano, of Flemington, NJ; four grandchildren, Elizabeth McCann, Sarah Smith, Gabrielle Garritano, and Billy McCann; as well as three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Weston Smith, and Evelyn McCann. 

Memorial services will be held Friday, April 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Newell Cemetery, Stanton, NJ.
