Leonard A. Frederick

January 2, 1951 — November 2, 2016

MILFORD – Leonard Alan Frederick died at home on Nov. 2, 2016. He was 65.

He was born in 1951 in Perth Amboy to John and Anne Skibinski Frederick and attended school there, graduating from Perth Amboy High School in 1968.

During his freshman year, he met Elaine Bodi in the high school chorus. Their first date was on Dec. 26, 1968, and they dated through their college years. Leonard graduated from Rider College in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in business. He and Elaine married that same year at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in Perth Amboy and settled in Piscataway, where they raised their children, Michael and Rebecca.

For more than 30 years, Leonard worked for Supermarkets General, in Woodbridge and then Carteret, as an accountant. He retired in 2006 and, in 2007, the couple moved to Milford.

A devout Roman Catholic, over the years he participated as an altar server and Eucharistic minister and sang in the choir at Our Lady of Hungary, Our Lady of Fatima in Piscataway, Sacred Heart in South Plainfield and, most recently, Saint Catherine of Siena in Pittstown.

Leonard was a man of many talents; he enjoyed singing, carpentry (once building a treehouse), boating, hiking and traveling; the Grand Canyon was among his favorite destinations. He also had an interest in acting and performed in many school plays growing up, most notably “South Pacific,” in which he portrayed Lt. Joseph Cable USMC.

Leonard was a quiet man who would go out of his way to help others. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He had a great sense of humor, always had a smile on his face and looked forward to simple pleasures.

In addition to his wife in Milford and his mother, Anne Becker of South Amboy, Leonard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Suellen Frederick of Clinton Township; his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Matthew Polny of South Plainfield; his brothers, John Clifford of Illinois and Raymond, James and Gary of New Jersey; his sister, Jane Dillon of South Carolina, and his grandchildren, Saralyn, John, Trace and Paige Frederick and Abigail Polny, along with many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 2 Whitebridge Road, Pittstown, NJ 08867. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Calling hour will from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
