Lewis Sanders, age 85 years, of Clinton Township, NJ, died Friday, December 22, 2017, at VA Hospice, Lyons, NJ.
Born in Flemington, NJ, August 12, 1932, son of the late Edwin and Clara Fewkes Sanders, he had resided in Clinton Township since 1981.
Lew was a retired retail executive with several retail stores including, Arnold Constable, Gimbel Brothers, Abraham & Straus and Macy's, all in New York City. Lew was also a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
A graduate of Flemington High School and Rider College, Lew was a member of the Clinton Township Senior Citizens; the Hunterdon County Historical Society and the Flemington United Methodist Church. A Civil War buff, he was a member of several Civil War Clubs including the Allentown PA Civil War Rountable, and the Civil War Roundtables of Woodbridge, NJ, Harrisburg, PA. and Morristown, NJ.
His wife, Jeanette Pirie Sanders, died in 2009.
Surviving are three nephews, Robert Pirie of Red Bank, NJ, James Pirie in Florida and Robert Yates of Harrisburg, PA. and a niece, Katherine Leamus of Erie, PA.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 29, 2017, at 3:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday 1:00 PM-3:00 PM at the funeral home.
